Justice Tijjani Garba Ringim, of the Federal High Court sitting in
Owerri, yesterday delivered judgement in favour of the sacked chairmen
and councillors of the 27 local govt and councils in the state.
In June and Nov. of 2019, the affected officials took the Federal
Accounts Allocations Committee (FAAC), Attorney General of the
Federation(AGF), Attorney General of Imo State, Governor of Imo State
and 27 others to court with a view to stopping the monthly allocations
from coming to the local govt areas pending when they resume offices.
Justice Ringim held that the dissolution of the council officials was very
wrong, insisting the Governor had no right to “dissolve local govt
officials elected by the people” and ordered Imo state govt to reinstate the sacked officials “immediately”.
It would be recalled that the elected council officials were suspended by
former Gov. Emeka Ihedioha, and the present Gov., Hope Uzodinma
refused to return them to office.
