CIVIL GROUP CALLS FOR THE SCRAP OF RE-RUN ELECTIONS

Written by on March 25, 2019

A civil group, identified as The Nigerian Civil Society Situation Room has registered displeasure at the practice of conducting supplementary elections, which it says has become a weapon for manipulating the electoral process in Nigeria adding that it should be jettisoned.

The organisation, made this known as the convener, Clement Nwankwo, reacted to widespread reports of irregularities, especially violence experienced during the supplementary elections held in Adamawa, Bauchi, Benue, Kano, Plateau and Sokoto states.

These views were contained in a statement issued on the observations of the supplementary elections jointly endorsed by two alternate chairs, Y.Z Yau and Esther Uzoma.

The group, while further expressing their regret said that the safety of electoral officers, staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission, ad-hoc personnel and observers was not guaranteed during the exercise.
