CRACKS EMERGE IN APC’S SENATE PRESIDENCY BID

Written by on March 27, 2019

Reports say there have been some arguments within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) over who becomes president of the Ninth Senate as the former Senate Majority Leader, Muhammed Ali Ndume frowned at the reported endorsement of Senate Leader Ahmed Lawan by the president and the party’s leadership.

The APC National Chairman Adams Oshiomhole had made the announcement in Abuja at a dinner hosted in the Presidential Villa saying that Lawan was picked for Senate president while Femi Gbajabiamila for Speaker of the House of Representatives.

In his reaction, Ndume described the validation as unconstitutional and undemocratic, saying the decision was taken without consultation with APC senators-elect.

Meanwhile, the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has joined the tussle by announcing that it will field candidates for the two seats.
