FEDERAL GOVERNMENT DESCRIBES ASUU STRIKE AS ILLEGAL
Written by thereachfm on March 12, 2020
The Federal Government says the ongoing warning strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities is illegal.
The Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, made the declaration while briefing newsmen after the Federal Executive Council meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari at the State House, Abuja.
Ngige said that by the International Labour Organisation Convention, ASUU ought to notify government before embarking on any strike.
He said that it would amount to corruption for the university lecturers not to teach the students but expect to be paid for the period they were on strike, as the government would invoke the no work, no pay policy.
