PRESIDENT BUHARI MOURNS LATE LITERARY ICON, GABRIEL OKARA WHO DIED JUST A FEW DAYS TO HIS 98TH BIRTHDAY

President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed sadness over the passage of renowned poet, novelist and playwright, Gabriel Okara who passed on just a few days to his 98th birthday

Okara made a mark in the African literary scene as one of the major pacesetters as well as being one the first renowned English Language black African poet in addition to the first African modernist writer.

In a statement presented on behalf of the Federal Executive Council, the President sent heartfelt commiserations to the Okara family, the government and people of Bayelsa State, the literary community saying Okara will be fondly remembered for his immense contributions to the development of African literature.
