SENATE DIVIDED AS LAWMAKERS DEBATE ‘MILITARISATION’ OF ELECTIONS

Written by on March 21, 2019

The Senate was yesterday divided along party lines when one of its members, Dino Melaye, raised a motion over the alleged militarisation of the general elections.

Presenting the motion on the floor, Melaye warned of the growing militarization of the nation’s electoral process and what he termed the unsteady application of electoral laws by INEC during the 2019 general elections.

He argued that the issues pose a serious threat to the country’s Democracy and have security implications that must be nipped in the bud.

Speaking in line with the Senator’s motion, another representative Biodun Olujimi disclosed that the elections were not carried out to standard.
