Tensions were reportedly heightened in Imo State on Tuesday after the Independent National Electoral Commission declared the senatorial election in Imo North inconclusive.

This came two days after the INEC office in the Isiala Mbano Local Government Area in the senatorial district was set allegedly set ablaze by thugs in addition to rumours of  ballot box snatching and abduction of electoral officials which marred the senatorial election.

Confirming the development,  INEC Public Relations Officer, Emmanuella Opara told newsmen that fresh elections would  be held in three out of the six LGAs that make up the senatorial district.

The PRO, who listed the affected LGAs as Isiala Mbano, Ihitte Uboma and Obowo in addition to six poling units in Okigwe and Onuimo LGAs said that a new date has not been fixed for fresh elections.
