The Chief Justice of Nigeria Ibrahim Muhammad, says the judiciary arm of government needs financial autonomy to enable it functions more creditably.
Muhammad said this in Abuja during the swearing ceremony of Senior Advocate of Nigeria as part of activities to open the 2019/2020 Legal Year of the Supreme Court.
He said the current scenario where the judiciary goes cap in hand begging for funds is jeopardising its independence.
Muhammad said the yearly budget of the sector is a far cry and the figure has sustained a dwindling profile for a long time.
