Still on Onnoghen, recent reports say that the federal government has taken fresh steps to press new criminal charges against the embattled CJN even after his clearance by the Code of Conduct Tribunal.

A top federal government official, who pleaded anonymity, made this known to newsmen saying that there are actually three aspects to the Onnoghen trial which he listed as the code of conduct tribunal, the national judicial council and the ethics issue and threshold of permissible judicial conduct.

The source, while speaking further said the level of accusations contained in petitions submitted against the top judicial officer including some findings of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), had thrown up even more damning facts.

He further noted that it is not enough for a judge to be above board however, he must indeed be seen to be above board at all times being the reason the traditional standard by which judicial officers are measured goes beyond the ordinary.
